Hi Nutrition Pros,
It’s Zoie here, your nutrition peer back with insightful tips as part of our prep notes series. Today, we’re focusing on utilizing the month of March to effectively prepare for the CNS exam. So, let’s dive into how you can organize your study routine and lay a solid foundation for the journey ahead.
Organize and Prioritize
March is all about setting yourself up for success. Your main priority this month should be to get organized and establish a solid study plan before April arrives.
Here’s how:
1. Complete Your Application: If you haven’t wrapped up the application process, now’s the time. Check out my previous youtube video, Prep Note Number Three, where I offer tips on simplifying the application process. This should be your top priority for March.
2. Study Framework and Resources:
– BCNS Certifications Handbook: Download and read the latest edition from cover to cover. The handbook contains crucial information, including education requirements, supervised practice experience, exam guidelines, and testing procedures.
– CNS Exam Content Outline: Obtain a copy of the content outline. Familiarize yourself thoroughly with the topics. Whether you prefer the web version or the one at the back of the handbook, make sure it appeals to your study style.
3. Read and Reread: Before diving deep into studying, familiarize yourself with the content outline. This repetition helps you understand what the exam will test you on and frames your study approach.
Building Your Knowledge
Principles of Nutrition
For March, concentrate on strengthening your grasp of nutrition principles. Review foundational nutrition information from your studies or utilize a textbook. If you face challenges recalling some basics, remember, reintroducing yourself to this knowledge is key.
Study Tips and Tools
– Make Connections: As you read the content outline, annotate and make notes. Creating associations between different domains helps consolidate your understanding.
– Leverage Different Learning Styles: Identify how you learn best. Whether through video lectures, online resources, or other methods, align your study habits accordingly.
Preparation Strategy
While some might advise starting with the most challenging topics, I don’t recommend that tactic for this exam. Instead, focus on mastering the foundations, which are essential for tackling advanced topics effectively.
